Post & Cardboardcities

Today I arrived at the studio to work on a logo commission. I'd just come from my day job, so I was feeling a bit tired and sort of 'bleh', as one does when one works a pants job to pay the bills and support a career of experimentation. Anyway, checking the post, I was thrilled to find that my recent purchase from the lovely Laura Redburn of cardboardcities had arrived. Never on this particular blog have I shared the work of other creatives. I mean, I barely blog about my own work, never mind other people's, so today marks a first for me. I see the good it does for artists and illustrators the world over to have a strong online presence, and that can only work if we're all talking about each other, too, not just ourselves.

Laura is a collage and mixed media illustrator based in Cardiff. Her work is quirky, nostalgic, and vibrant, and a downright steal at less than a tenner for the haul pictured above. The card on the left is an original collage, as is the excellent hand-made brooch. I just think it's lovely that she takes the time to work with tangible materials like paper, scissors, glue and paint, in a time where people rely heavily on digital methods as a shortcut (myself included!). I'm really digging her recent foodie patterns, especially the one pictured below.
Laura is available for commission, and writes an excellent blog that you should all follow. Her work is available to purchase in all sorts of forms from her Etsy and Society6 pages.

Also, she is currently running a KICKSTARTER project to help her produce prints and cards for sale. It would be super if you could help out. There are only 24 hours to go!

P.S. At the moment I am working on expanding my 'brand', and making my work available in more than just print form. I have recently moved house and am feeling inspired to make things now we have a lovely spare room. Keep your eyes peeled!
