And The Award Goes To..

Me. For the worst blogger in existence. Very sorry about the lack of updates or any interesting content at all for coughALMOSTFOURMONTHScough! I suppose I should tell you about my internship with Reggie and what else I've been up to.

The internship was FANTASTIC. Our team was based in a swanky little studio belonging to Protégé, on the Thames in Somerset House. Not only did it give me the opportunity to finally work in a professional environment on a real design job, it gave me the challenge of meeting and working with strangers, and living on my own in a strange city.

The job assigned to us was to create a set of design led t-shirts on the theme of what eventually became anti-celebrity; six interns, six designs. It proved quite difficult at first - trying to avoid cheesy caricatures or being completely offensive - but in the end we came out with a really strong set of images.

The Reggie website is currently receiving a complete overhaul to include the t-shirts which should be available by December. I'll be posting on here again when that time comes and I expect you all to purchase one! (otherwise us poor designers get no monies)

New Project

Phew! Now it has been a while.

I am happy to report that New Designers went extremely well! Lots of interest was had and I've made a few contacts, interview dates and am about to start a new project off the back of it. Huzzah! I didn't waste thousands of pounds on my degree!

The new project is with Reggie London. I won't divulge the details just yet, but I will basically be working with a team of graduates to create a set of design-led t-shirts (of which I expect you all to buy one!) starting this Monday 2nd August. It's my first "proper" design job and I'll be working away from home, in London. Exciting!

Until next week then - if I can survive in a hostel.

I am up and running!

It feels like I haven't updated this in a while, although I think it's only been a week or so. This post is to mainly announce that MY WEBSITE IS FINALLY DONE (for the most part - still got a few bits of work to put up). I figure it's important that I have it working and up-to-date by the time of Drawgasmic and New Designers.

Speaking of New Designers, I am seriously behind on getting some more edith prints done. I've been at Glastonbury Festival for the past week (Which was quite possibly one of the best experiences of my life! Highly recommend!) and I'm also behind on packing for the move to my new place. Argh! Stressful and wonderful times!

I hope you're all well. See you after New Designers now, I reckon!

It has arrived!

So, my work has arrived in St.Louis, MO without a hitch! Thank you postal service, you have served me well!

If you guys want to do me a huge favour, then please promote the show as much as humanly possible. Even if you don't live in St.Louis, spreading the world will still give Cranky Yellow more publicity, along with all the artists exhibiting. Just head on over to the website to nick the html for a banner and promote!

New Website

My website has been "Under Construction" for an absolute age now. Today I finally found myself with nothing in particular to do other than my washing, so I sat down and got to work on redesigning it. I'm quite happy with it thus far, so I thought I'd give you guys a sneak peak at the new layout, which is all hand-drawn and put together in photoshop.

Drawgasmic & La Môme Piaf

Something exciting I came across just this week is Drawgasmic. It is basically an exhibition and book aiming to promote independant artists, illustrators and designers from across the globe. The exhibition is in July and the coffee table book will be released in conjunction with this.

I created a brand new print to submit for the occasion. I only managed to get it posted this afternoon though so I'm peeing myself just hoping it reaches Cranky Yellow by next Friday so it can be included in the event.

The piece just fell into place from some mindless doodling I've been doing this week. I've been listening to and thinking about Edith Piaf a lot and so my print is the outcome of that I guess!

Find it in my Big Cartel Shop soon.

GDI Degree Show 2010

Well, I've come to the end of the road. My degree show was last Friday (4th), which means my undergraduate education is over. I haven't really had the chance to think about what that actually means yet because I've still had so much to do this past week, but we took the show down today and I have to say, I'm feeling quite sad now.

Still, enough of that. This isn't a secret diary. The show itself was an absolute success. I personally still feel quite overwhelmed by the amount of praise and attention we all received, and I'm immensely proud to have been part of such an amazing group of creatives. I'm going to miss them all a lot.

I was far too busy at the show and during the week to get any decent pictures taken, but I got a few snaps of my boards today before we dismantled the room.

H.G.Wells Covers

Final book cover designs for a selection of H.G.Wells titles. I'm also in the process of producing them as screen prints too.

In other news, there is a good chance that you will find my work at the New Designers Exhibition in July this year - Coventry University's Illustration stand. So excited, I couldn't begin to tell you!

It's all taking longer than I had hoped

Ohhhhh, what a nightmare. I have had such a busy week, and yet because of one set back or another I feel like I have accomplished less than I should have.

I would have printed the shirts today because I re-made my 'Home' screen, but I had re-made it smaller thinking the original was too big. I was wrong. The screen was too small! So then I cleaned the screen and made another one, but I fear it's gone a bit dodgy and I may have to re-do it AGAIN. So, no apparel yet. I should be concentrating on my final project though so I will print the shirts after Monday.

On the final project front (which I haven't really recorded on the internet, mainly due to a late start and numerous stresses surrounding it), I have been spending late nights in the university computer studios trying to get everything sorted for hand-in on Monday. I've almost finished screen printing my final design for 1 of the book covers - the others, alas will have to remain digital because I just don't have time (or the screens - I'm printing 2 colour, A2).

I'll end this with a little peek at some very initial sketches. I'm not going to beat around the bush - somebody on my course poached my bicycle idea almost exactly. It is not coincidence. May the worm of conscience begnaw thy soul.

Coloured 'Home' Print Arrives

At last I have made the coloured 'Home' print available in the shop. I still haven't located all of the prints but I am sure I printed 8 on the first run, so these are First Edition out of 8.

That is all - other than the customary plea to buy my work. I'm moving house soon and I don't want my new home to be a sleeping bag underneath the ring road!

T-shirts Ordered

Late last night I ordered a few plain white t-shirts - 3 small, 1 medium for now - just to see how the prints go. I ordered a sweater in heather grey aswell because a friend expressed interest in having the print on a jumper. I'll try to get some semi-professional pictures of these when they're done to put on here and the shop.

If you're interested in apparel just drop me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do. After the next few weeks I'm going to have a lot more time (and hopefully, money) on my hands to focus on this kind of thing.

Cheers!

Big Cartel

Whilst I remember, here is a link to my Big Cartel shop.

There's only one print for sale at the minute because I need to figure out numbers for any others. I'm also considering taking orders for t-shirts as a few people have expressed interest. I just need to get my arse graduated, then I can take this "selling my work and making a career" thing seriously. Just bare with me.

Yet another password to remember

Greetings. I have to write this even though I've nothing of interest to say, because my blog looks bare and this irritates me.

I already have a Tumblr but I decided I needed a Blogger too. I will in no way maintain them both because I am crap at these internetty things. My Tumblr became a place to sporadically post things I found interesting or nice to look at, as opposed to my initial intention of documenting my illustration endeavors.

Now, this is for my illustration.
